Street Sculpture: Benedict Radcliffe

There I was, minding my own business, innocently wandering round Shoreditch yesterday and what did my eyes suddenly happen to see?

On top of a non-descript building on an unnoticeable backroad, these two fantastic pieces of sculpture.

Thanks to the magic of Twitter, I was told by @pencreed this is the work of one Benedict Radcliffe (they used to go swimming together as kids appaz).

Obviously a nod towards the Olympics, there's a gymnast in pink and the infamous 'black power' salute from John Carlos at the Mexico Olympics in '68.

(Incidentally, there's a great documentary called Salute, that focuses on the Australian silver medalist, and his quiet commitment to the cause. When he died a couple of years back, Carlos and bronze medalist Tommie Smith were pallbearers at his funerel).

Check more of Benedict's, who has been commissioned by Paul Smith, Red Bull and Comme de Garcon, work here.
